Money Twitter Influencers
What I mean by Money Twitter Influencers is those on twitter that will boast about their incomes from flipping stuff, selling courses, and affiliate sales. Surprisingly some of these influencers actually have a decent size following on Twitter. From my very short time being active on Twitter, I can tell these influencers for one have no honest right to be talking about finances as most of them can’t even grasp basic math let alone talk about personal finance. Secondly, they seem to be using the good old corny I make “X” amount so I must be good with money and finances sales pitch.
Being around financial circles for as long as I have it’s easy to spot a fake a mile away.
Why Do I Care?
Because I am passionate about helping my community, people, friends, and family. I love helping show people how to accomplish the life goals that are unique to them and their families. I hate seeing people get taken advantage of. This kind of influencer is predatory and is not being honest or transparent to people in any way shape or form. So I figure I have my own platform it’s about time I call a spade a spade when I see it.
What is great about me is I don’t depend on sales, followers, or to fake the funk to build wealth.
The “I Can’t Math Influencer”
So here is the first influencer I have dubbed “I can’t math”. So as we can see from the screenshots below I did not agree with their tweet and stated my point on why I thought it was wrong. This influencer believed that all people’s money issues can be solved by earning more money. Wow, that has to be the answer to everyone’s money problems… Why did I and thousands of other finance bloggers, podcasters, and book writers not think of this? I’m telling you this one is a real head-turner. This influencer also always uses status symbols as a way to insinuate he is wealthy like expensive suits, watches, and even mentions often how great his office is on a high floor in a building. While I’m over here like cool dude you are so wealthy that you can’t afford to quit working. Sounds like a great Financial Freedom Influencer. You see this guy also sells a few different courses on how you can become wealthy and achieve Financial Freedom…
Yet the reality is he is selling a pipe dream to those with no real financial literacy
As we can see I guess he got upset that I disagreed with his tweet. Yet his only response is that I can only have an opinion once I have $300K. For one let’s be honest that is silly at best at worst ignorant. Secondly, we are way above the $300K mark and I have almost $300K in liquid assets. As I am finishing this post I am now above the $300K in liquid assets. On top of that, I can stop working in less than 4 years at age 39 and live anywhere in the world and never have to grind, work, or hustle for money ever again. Then he mentioned something about I must have heard this on “some IG post”. Funny again not even knowing me or discussing any of my points he says something so kiddish. This is the best a Wealthy Money Twitter Influencer has to offer…
The “I Hustle So I Don’t Have To Work A 9-5 Influencer”
This Money Twitter Influencer has been a real joy for me to talk to. First, he advocates for people to quit their 9-5 jobs to Hustle and make more income than they did at their jobs. He states often that he now makes more Hustling than he ever did at his job. Yet won’t seem to ever mention how much he made at his W2 job nor what that W2 job was…
You see that is typically a dead give away he in fact had a low wage job.
Mind you there is nothing wrong with having a low wage job in my book. I had many low wage jobs in my years. In fact, I use to even give Plasma twice a week for income.
Yet there is something unethical when you try to sell your Hustle in such a light that it makes so much more than your old job but it just so happens you don’t mention what that income was. Well now let’s go into this guy’s M.O. shall we. As we can see below he sure does like to boast about how much he makes. Yet as we can see by the first picture the guy states he’s close to reaching his first $100K. Now I will admit my last response in there does sound a bit of an asshole. As we can see this is just a few of his many posts about his sales. With sales like these, I would think he is swimming in money.
He did respond to me but I somehow did not get a picture of it. But his response was something to the point of… That I need to understand this is just sales and he has to pay people that affiliates for him, have to pay fees, and keep some aside for taxes. Well now finally you mention that when I basically called you out. Yet not once did you ever mention that before. It’s funny how that works.
Let me also note this influencer sells a subscription for only $50 that will show you items you can buy at retail stores and flip for a profit. Interesting that your whole marketing for this subscription is show others how much you make. Because the bigger these numbers the more you look like a guru at this. In turn the more people will want to pay your subscription because well people are easily manipulated.
Now maybe I am wrong here and don’t know what I am talking about.
Or maybe these influencers are just cheap salesmen with a horrible sales pitch that anyone with any financial knowledge can see right through. What was interesting is after this influencer replied to me I asked: “What are your profits say on $60,000 in sales?”. Should be easy enough to answer seeing he has shown multiple big sale payouts. Yet all I got was radio silence he never responded to me again after that.
No Honesty Or Transparency
Not a single one of these Money Twitter Influencers have any transparency. Not one of them that shows big sales payouts will ever say how much they actually profit. Especially as a money nerd, I think of a few things…
- Taxes
- Time
- Profits
- Fees
Showing a picture of $60,000 sounds cool and looks cool to people that don’t have money saved up. But then you find out its sales. Well, most people don’t realize that is not your profits. You have to account for taxes, fees, time, and after all that you get your profit.
Now if these Money Influencers where legit and doing as good as the claim would they not want to show you the profits?
The fact is they would. Not only that they would want to show you a high net worth as this would only help show how credible they are. Yet literally, not one of them and I have asked many of them to simply state a profit. Mind you this is only two of many that I decided to screenshot to use in the post.
Basically its I’m making bank buy my (fill in the blank) and you will make bank as well scheme.
I think Hulk needs to smash these Money Twitter Influencers
Words To The Wise
I’m not the smartest or the wealthier guy out there. I know more than others but less than some. But I have been in the game long enough to know run away when an influencer has to boast about sales to sell you something. That you are better off 9 times out of 10 not buying anything from these people. That you can build wealth pretty fast once you optimize a few things in your life. That not everyone will be looking out for your best interest and many people will want to simply capitalize on your lack of knowledge. That it is ok to just have a W2 job and invest and build wealth based on that. You don’t have to Hustle, Flip Items, Buy A Course, or try to trade Options.
So WTF Gives?
You see these Money Twitter Influencers don’t make nearly as much as they lead you to believe through these “Hustles”. Instead, they make money selling you a course that will teach you to be rich like me. Interesting how that works. So I can’t and won’t actually show you that you can have and make consistent wealth with my said course yet buy it and I will let you affiliate it. Also ever notice how you’ll see the same pictures of “+100% ROI” yet why not show your 5-10 year ROI? Because if they did that you would see more losses than gains from options trading.
Actually lets even look at Warren Buffets bet against the best on Wall Street Hedge Fund Guru’s who do this for a living and have the best education and tools there are on trading… You see Warren Buffet won this bet that a simple Index Fund would beat their ROI. Yet you are telling me some dude with no education not only beats these Hedge fund guys on Wall Street but also created a course so everyone can… When something sounds too good to be true it’s usually bull shit. In this case it’s bull shit dressed up as an Influencer selling a course that will keep you broke. Check out Warren Buffets bet here.
On top of that bet, Warren Buffet advises most people should use Index Funds by investing small amounts over long periods of time. Check out that article here.
This is the 2020 version of a MLM scheme and is unethical and predatory at best.
Will these influencers ever reach Financial Freedom like they try to sell to the masses? 99% won’t in my opinion because few of them can do basic math let alone strategize a drawdown strategy or even understand the basics of taxes. Any tool that has to make a video or take a video with cash probably won’t make it too FI. Someone, please tell Karen and Brad your $5,000 in cash bills is not a big deal. Honestly, I have had to correct these people that you can access a 401K and IRA before 59.5. Like, come on if you don’t even understand the basics how are you going to try to sell me Financial Freedom. By the way, if you want to see the post on how to access your retirement accounts before 59.5 check out MADFIENIST post here.
This also does not even touch on what their plans are for health care. To be honest they probably have no clue healthcare costs and once a medical bill comes up boom their plans will blow up.
Where Do These Influencers Get Their Knowledge?
They get it from books, blogs, articles written by bloggers, podcasters, and probably a few from college. Actually I’m not sure if they even have the knowledge by their posts and their replies. So I always find it funny when they act like you must buy their course for some groundbreaking information. Which is a pile of horse shit. What might actually be true is you might learn it faster in a course depending on how the material is presented. Yet not a single one of them will actually say that even though that is true. It all depends on how they developed their content and what type of learner you are.
Stop Trying To Time The Market!
Let’s look at some hard facts that will rock investors. Want to see a crazy statistic… “According to the stock trading platform, eToro, a staggering 80% of day traders lose money over the course of a year, with the median “loss” being 36.3%”. On top of that 75% of traders quit trading stocks after just two short years. But please tell me again how this Money Twitter influencer has developed a course for you to buy that will teach you differently.
Simply put stop trying to get rich quickly and instead come up with a strategic plan.
My Transparency
Below is my most recent liquid net worth. Not showing this to brag instead, I show this to be transparent. I also do a Monthly Net Worth Update to show others how fast wealth builds and how simplistic it can be. That you don’t have to waste $40 on some course written by some person on Twitter that, to be honest, is probably not wealthy and will have to work for a long time. Yet you can learn many of these things for free from Financial Bloggers, Podcasters, and getting FREE books from this magical place called your local Libary…

Updated Numbers
I had to put my updated numbers as I Am finally getting to tweaking this post and ready to release it. Should have put it out sooner but I have a backlog of posts drafted! If you love these graphs as much as I do check out Personal Capital! It’s a free financial tool I use every day.

Pushing Forward
I actually think I will buy a few of these Money Twitter Influencers courses. You know why? So I can write about them in a somewhat follow up post. Because maybe I was wrong. This way I can give even better feedback on it. I like to dabble in things like this as it gives me the experience to talk about and to write about them. Like how I started investing in Crypto Currency in 2017. Or how I started to invest in single stocks in July of 2020. Doing fun experiments like this allows me to help others even more and it’s fun to document through my writing.
I love that I have the Financial Freedom to write about what I want with no need to influence anyone about anything. That my FIRE plan is set and in motion. In less than four short years at the age of 39, I will never have to work for income ever again in my life…
Hopefully everyone enjoyed this post and stay tuned for a follow up!
______________________________________________________________________________
Wow, you have been following a different Money Twitter than I have, lol.
When I started blogging, I enjoyed reading net worth updates that other personal finance bloggers posted because I found it inspiring. I don’t read them anymore because I’m a believer now. I know that there are things I can do to make more money (I have a second, part-time job in addition to my full-time job) to help catch-up retirement savings after a late start. There are plenty of things I can do to save money. And I’ve automated my investing. It all helps.
I love interacting with other personal finance bloggers on Twitter. I’ve gotten an education there, and find most to be supportive (I block the ones who are not – who has time for that?) Hope you find some positive Tweeps to follow! Leave the negative ones behind.
