    I Got Married!!!

    February 14, 2020

I can’t think of a  better day of the year to break the great news as today is Valentine’s Day. I can’t explain how amazingly grateful and lucky I am to have found such an amazing woman.

I meet my wife in the FI/FIRE community. That is right I found her in the very community that changed my life. I read about her a few years ago when I first started my FI journey.

I remember hearing her on a podcast and reading her blog. I thought to myself what an incredible woman. She was smart, independent, funny, articulate, passionate and just a really down to earth person.

She is an FI/FIRE blogger who has been FI for about 8 years. She inspires and challenges me in ways I did not know were possible.

So just how did I not only date but marry such a rare catch?

It all started with a message. I decided to message her and be very open and vulnerable and told her how incredible I thought she was. A week later she was visiting me in San Diego. I remember getting so nervous picking her up at the airport that day. She could tell and kept asking me why I was so nervous.

It’s hard not getting nervous around someone I knew and read about in the community. Next thing you knew we were messaging each other every day. We had a long-distance relationship as she lived in Guatemala. Which made things difficult but so worth it.

The more time we spent together the more I knew how special she was. I really believe the universe put her into my journey. I’m head-over-heels for her. So, of course, I had to ask her to be with me for eternity!

It’s been such an incredible adventure and we still have many more adventures ahead of us.

As of now, we have put a Blaze to our FIRE journey. Like I said she is already FI and me I am about 4.5 years out. For purposes of this blog, I will only include my finances in my net worth update. I think it would feel like cheating if I combined them at this point for blog purposes only. Who knows this might eventually change.

Luckily for me, we agree on finances and agree on living with less. It was actually my wife Pauline Paquin who pushed me to try the full-time RV living.

She is my superpower. My journey has been incredible, to say the least. It’s even more amazing being married to Pauline. She was born and raised in Paris France yet has lived all over the world. She loves adventures and even has done multiple 6-month motorcycle trips.

So how does this affect my FIRE plans?

Well, it makes it so much simpler, to be honest. Because now it’s easier for me to plan future expenses with my wife. Before as a single guy it was very difficult to plan future expenses as I did not want to stay single forever. So I had to basically plan for an arbitrary FIRE number that would cover what I would hope for two people. Well, now I can really see our true FIRE number.

Oh, and I can’t forget to mention our FI wedding! We decided to do a courthouse wedding here in San Diego. It was such a beautiful spot and honestly very intimate. We spent a grand total of around $170.

Well, thanks for reading and hopefully you take some chances in your journey it might just turn into one of the most incredible chapters of your story.
