    Weekend Roundup Volume: 5

This is where I will talk about all the great Blogs, Videos, and Podcasts that are out there. I will pick a few of my favorite articles and podcasts that inspired me this week.

Why index fund investing make so much sense

    by Rags To Nicer Rags

“Let’s talk about index funds. I personally like the total stock market index fund, but since the graph that sparked me to write this post is about the S&P 500, we will talk about that index fund. Index funds are basically very similar to a mutual fund that a broker/ financial advisor would put you in. Mutual funds are actively managed by managers. Index funds are not. The difference, you ask?  A lot of money in fees. Index funds are kind of like that old late-night crock pot infomercial. They are the “set it and forget it” type of investing. For example, if you buy an S&P 500 index fund, you own a small equal piece of all 500 stocks in the S&P. If a company falls out of the top 500, a new one replaces it in your investment. That’s all folks. If you own one of the top 5 companies, and something catastrophic happens, you are not going to be happy with the outcome.  Your options are selling and paying huge capital gains, or not selling, and hoping for a bounce back (if it never happens, you will be extremely sad).”

DROPPING OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL TO HACK COLLEGE

    by Graduating Into FIRE

“Taking the exit exam at a young age and going to community college full time saved them lots of time, and ultimately allowed them to graduate early. My friends were able to graduate at 20 years old! If you think high school is too easy or you want to challenge yourself and take more community college classes, while also saving time and money, this pathway is definitely an option! For those of you who don’t live in California, check out what exit exams are available and whether doing something like this is an option! If you have the discipline and drive to take community college classes full time, then I highly encourage exploring this path to hacking college”

Storytime: The RV Life and Why We Gave It Up

    by Geek Streamers

“In 2015, we decided to hit the eject button on our repetitive time loop existence. We didn’t know where we’d go or if we’d want to settle down, so we decided to embark on full-time RV life so we could explore everywhere and live in all the places. We’d been watching full-time RVers on Youtube and decided “we can totally do that!” All that was left to do was decide what kind of RV would be our escape pod.”
