I want to explain why I do a monthly net worth update.
- Keep me accountable
- Track my journey
- Prove that anyone can become a millionaire
- Prove that FIRE works

Another month and I’m still inching my way closer to FIRE! Stay consistent and keep investing like it’s going out of style.
Income
This month I made $6,202. Income is a little high, this includes some refunds from items I sent back.

Expenses
Expenses total right at $4,110. This is an epic fail on me being lazy. I just got a new chase CC for the points and all my spending is on that. Like a little finance nerd that I am, I forgot to connect the account to my personal capital. This number above “$4,110” also seems high but “as tradition” I am too lazy to dig deep into the numbers.

Savings
I saved $3,960 this month. That is right around a 48% savings rate! Not entirely sure how I pulled this one off! I for sure thought my savings rate would be lower. Over the last few months, I have had a drop in savings rates. Don’t worry I have not turned into a zombie consumer. The reality is I have been putting some love and money into our FZJ80 aka 80 series Land Cruiser. This is the vehicle that I take off-roading to go on my many adventures and get lost in the middle of nowhere. It just so happens you don’t want to break down in the middle of nowhere. If you know anything about off-road vehicles the 80 series is a classic that has a huge following. It being 25 years old and just a hair over 200K on the odometer it still could fetch around $10K on the market. I have seen low-mile FZJ80s that are all stock go for over $75,000.
Going forward I’m hoping to see an increase in my savings rate. To be honest, I feel like I’m on cruise control these days. My lovely wife tells me you will die with $5 million dollars so let loose a little and spend some more money. Right now the next debate is spending around $3,700 on an E-Bike. The bike I’m looking at has a range of around 100 miles. It’s incredible how far tech has brought us.
- $2,000 Money Market Account
- $1,860 TSP
- 100 Crypto
Check out CC hacking it saves me a ton of money!

Side Hustle
Side Hustle Income: $0
This month I made $0 in side hustle money. I also am now earning interest in my BlockFI crypto account. Not sure if I count that as a side hustle though.
Net Worth: $436,127
That is a -$10,768 loss since last month’s net worth update for April was $446,895.
This is where it gets a little sticky now. My net worth posted on Personal Capital in the sleek graph below is wrong. Still, have some of that crypto that would not link to Personal Capital.
I really hate how I have to take multiple screenshots of my crypto for this update!!! So I am thinking of just putting the total crypto I own in plain text in the future.
I love using Personal Capital to track my Wealth.

Final Thoughts
A lot has happened in the stock market these last few months. I can say without a shred of doubt in my mind I am still buying and I am enjoying this opportunity to buy at a discount. The shares I am buying today are at prices that I saw last year.
The way I look at this opportunity, in a nutshell, is I get a second opportunity to buy more stocks that I believed in last year. That is a great opportunity for anyone in the accumulation phase of life or any investor in general.
People often say they wished they bought “X” stock last year. Well, times like these give you that second chance to do so.
Crypto Doomsday!
The irony would have it that crypto has also seen a steep decline in value. Some of the big crypto lending companies have gone belly up recently. One company I use Celsius has now stopped all transfers of crypto and filed for bankruptcy.
I could have withdrawn my crypto weeks before this happened. As many people saw it coming. Yet I decided to weather the storm with this one. I think part of me wanted to see just what would or could happen. The other side of me was just stupid and thought well who cares if you lose all of it?
That portfolio is currently sitting at around $13,000. I don’t think that is much money, to some that are a good chunk of change. What really gets me is not the value but that I had close to half of a BTC in that account. One goal I have is to own at least one BTC if not more. Now I might lose that because of my stupidity. But lesson learned on this one. I now have a cold storage wallet. This way I own my own keys and that coin.
BlockFI is what I use to optimize my crypto accounts to build more wealth.
Did I FIRE?
Last update I talked about putting in for early retirement. It got a BIG DISAPPROVAL, unfortunately. Why? I am not sure, I was told I am not allowed to know the reason. Man, you have to love the Marine Corps.
I was beyond upset when this happened. This again showed me that FI/FIRE is a must in my life. Having a big FU fund helped soften this blow.
Well hopefully everyone enjoyed this month’s update. Keep on keeping on the journey.
For this blog, I only show my portfolio and don’t show our combined portfolio. I’ll leave it at that we are doing very well and way above average. Which makes going to work that much harder every day! But I plan to pull the RE card in the summer of 2024.
Those of you that have been following my Net Worth Updates can probably skip the rest of this post.
Barista and Coast FIRE group.
I have created a FIRE group for Barista and Coast FIRE people. I saw there was a gap in the community and these paths seem like the more enjoyable path. So I said, “I have to take on this passion project.”
One of my desires this year is to get and build more community! Here is the Barista and Coast FIRE group HERE.

Fitness
No gym, weights, or fancy gear for over a year! I’m slaying this fitness routine. It’s Fun, Simple, and Works. I’m gaining flexibility, strength, and endurance it’s incredible. Mind you this is with me having multiple injuries from the Marine Corps. I have learned I never needed that gym anyway.
On top of that, I have started to cultivate a Facebook Fitness group where anyone is welcome to come to join us. I set Bootcamp challenges to get everyone motivated and active.
Do you have a fitness goal for 2021?
