    I’m Back

    April 27, 2019

Well, it’s been honestly too long since I have written on my blog. Some of you might be asking yourself why have I stopped writing and sharing my journey. It’s about time I spilled the beans so to speak. In this post, I like to tackle that and shine a light on my absence and hopefully clear the air.

The last time I wrote I was actually in DC attending a military school. Since that time my life has been somewhat hectic, to say the least. I graduated from that school in September. From there I drove back to MS and was home for only a week. Then I flew to San Diego California to attend Drill Instructor school. DI school is three months long and I had very little free time. I graduated from DI school in December. From there I had to fly back to MS to move everything I owned. I had to check into my new command by January 18th. So not much time to move and have some off time.

My life has been pretty hectic since that last post is an understatement. Yet even though it’s been rough I learned a new level of being uncomfortable. I also had the opportunity to have an amazing trip with my fiance. This trip was pretty epic and we hacked the hell out of it. It started in my home base of MS where we stayed at a friends place because I turned in my apartment the week before. We then drove to Tampa FL to stay with my sisters for a night and catch up with them. The next day we finished the first part of the trip to Key West to visit my Mom and step Dad. We stayed there for a week and spent next to nothing and explored the beautiful island. The next part of the trip had us going to Orlando for a conference my fiance had to attend at Disney World. Which were three days 100% paid for by her school. After that, we drove to San Diego to pick up our keys to our new apartment. The trip was very cheap because we choose certain ways to hack it. One of the best hacks was staying everywhere for free and making sandwiches or splitting a meal.

Key West was a blast as always! Here are a few of our pictures.

Three days in Orlando 100% free was epic! Unfortunately, not many pics to prove it.

Then there was the road trip from FL to CA.

So many things have changed in a short time. I’m now living in CA, I’m engaged to an incredibly smart, beautiful woman who is very on board with FIRE and already living the right lifestyle, we got a bulldog and I’m a Drill Instructor. A lot has changed on my journey yet my goals are still the same. San Diego is more expensive than MS and my savings rate has dropped yet it’s a great trade-off in my opinion. We are now hitting about a 43% -45% savings rate. Not bad for the fact these last three months of living here we had to furnish our place. While a 40%+ savings rate is amazing the goal in coming months is to creep it up closer to 50%.

With this new lifestyle and new work schedule writing as I have in the past is not likely yet I’m going to put in my best effort to continue to write and share my journey. In the meantime, I want to thank everyone who supports my blog and continues to be inspired by my posts.
