Why Work Sucks
I have seen a tear in the fabric of the FIRE/FI community as a whole. The fabric is the overall goal of reaching FIRE/FI. The tear is the argument for continuing to work or completely retiring. First-world issues at their best. There are many reasons why work sucks, this is why the pursuit of FIRE/FI is important for everyone.
My bottom line is work sucks!
Why work sucks, is a complicated topic and I want to dive deeper into this and see what everyone’s opinion is. Do you know what is not complicated? Using BlockFI to earn 8% on your cash!
Why Work Sucks – It’s A Job
At the end of the day, it is only a job. The hard truth is you are replaceable and are not special when it comes to your job. Even in the military, we say we look out for our own but it is just a fancy sales pitch. When it all comes down to it a job is just a business. I say be prepared for this.
At any time you could be let go from your job. There might be a downsize at the company. Trust me your job does not care. Your job is not your friend and it will never have your back.
Why Work Sucks – No Freedom
Let’s be brutally honest here, your job takes away your freedom. It does not matter if it is part-time or even a remote job. You have less freedom to enjoy the things you want. It takes away from your time and this is the freedom zapper. Ever want to go on a six-month adventure around the world? Try to tell your job that you want to and see if they keep a spot for you when you get back.
That job is holding you back from visiting family, friends whenever you want. It is taking away family time every day. You could be spending that time with loved ones. More time with your kids and pets. What more could you do if you could spend your time every day exactly how you want?
Why Work Sucks – Mental Drain
Jobs are just huge drains on our mental energy. Ever come home turn on a TV and next thing you know it is 9 p.m.? That is what we Americans call unwinding after a long day at work. This is why work sucks! It drains your mental compacity and now you are home yet you are too tired to even do anything. This gives you very little time if any at all to explore your passions or hobbies.
This is why so many people live for the weekend. Ever hear of the term dreading Mondays? This is why work sucks. How many more important things could you focus on and accomplish if you had your mental energy back? Imagine being home and having the energy to play with your kids and spend time with your spouse.
We do need money to live, and a job is a good way to get money. I’m not saying don’t ever work a job. I am more so showing why you should make Financial Independence your focal point. Why you should not tie your entire existence to a job.
Check out my post on The Most Efficient Path To FIRE!
I Love My Job!
We will not dig too deep into this rabbit hole. I will be talking about this in a side post of mine that I am drafting as you read this. Trust me It will be a hot and mind-blowing post.
Don’t Worry If You Hate Your Job
Please don’t let a job ruin your life and your ability to pursue freedom. It is ok we can tackle this journey together and I hope my blog can provide the tools to help you achieve FIRE/FI on your terms. You see the journey to FIRE/FI it gives you options.
Two great paths for this are Barista and Coast FIRE! These can be the more enjoyable path and help you navigate to a less stressful job that does not suck as much.
It’s time to start really thinking about your freedom and the path to that. How will you get there? What does your perfect day look like? What steps should you start today? The truth is the journey is not easy. You will have roadblocks, turns, and twists. You will fall off the path.
Yet it is all worth it and so are you. Work is not your entire life. Once we really think about it there are so many reasons why work sucks. This is why you need to put yourself first in life and not work.
