Tiny Living
It’s no secret that I live in a tiny home. I have lived this lifestyle for over two years at this point. Many of the reasons I wanted to downshift my life and try tiny living is to live a simpler life. Even before this downshift in my life I would say I lived fairly simple and minimalist. At some point, though I wanted more though.
I wanted more freedom, flexibility, and less stuff.
My first thought was trying the van life movement. Living in a van sounded simple and it would make me own less. But after looking at them for a few months I realized that living in a van full-time was not enough room for me. I knew then that I wanted to make a travel trailer my tiny home.
I Love Personal Capital to track my wealth game! Their layout is super user-friendly and I adore the charts and graphs.
The Purchase
Now the search begins to find the right travel trailer for me. I looked at more travel trailers than I like to admit. I looked at used ones from private owners and went to a good amount of dealerships. I started to get an idea of the floor setup that would fit my lifestyle the best. I was very close to buying a new RV from the dealership in San Diego where my home base is.
I was at a stalemate with the price and the interest rate on the loan. Days went by and I finally talked them down to a price that I was ok paying but not in love with. That very same day I saw a young military couple had their RV and truck for sale in Miramar. Right down the road from me. I talked to them and asked if I could come to look at it. As soon as I saw it I fell in love with the layout and the interior design of it.
I optimize my cash emergency fund by using BockFI to earn up to 8% interest on my cash.
They remodeled some of the interior to make it feel more like home. The price for the truck and RV was less than the RV I was about to buy from the dealership. It was a blessing that I found this deal and decided to buy both the truck and RV from them.

The Reality
When I see tiny living online it frames it in a way that it’s amazing. You see these great locations, very beautiful setups, and really cool lights hanging all over. It can be that but it won’t always be that. I like to show both sides of the spectrum of tiny living.
There are also those that think tiny living is horrible even though they never have tried it. Every time I have a new person in my tiny home they are shocked at how nice the inside is. They also always say that they can’t believe how much space is in it.
Check out how I live on $30,000 a year in San Diego.
I finally did a YT video to give everyone a tour of my tiny home. I explain some projects that I am doing and what the future looks like.
