May is now coming to a close so it’s that time of the month for my monthly net worth update! This month I took a much-needed break to go visit my Mom in Key West.
Here is the guest house I got to stay in and the backyard.
Even got to shower outside which was an amazing experience.
We even had a guest iguana decided it wanted to go for a swim in the pool.
The views are always gorgeous. I did a few runs as well in the early mornings and just really explored.
The food is always amazing.
Income
This month I made $2,843 after my contributions to my 401K. This is a little less income than I am used to but that’s because I have increased my 401K contributions. My focus is maxing that 401K out this year at $18,500.
Expenses
Expenses total right at $1,373.
Savings
This month I saved $2,561 which is right around a 56% savings rate. As I am writing this I still have one more day here in Key West. Right now I still have to pay off my CC and am likely to still have about $200-$300 left over in my checking account. Of which I will more than likely put into my taxable account. So my savings will be a little bit higher than what I marked on here.
- $1,661 Traditional 401K
- $700 Money Market
- $200 Vacation Fund
Net Worth: $110,998
This is where it gets a little sticky now. My net worth posted on Personal Capital in the sleek graph below is wrong. Still, have some of that crypto that would not link to Personal Capital.
That is a +$3,497 gain since last month net worth update for April was $107,501
Final Thoughts
My focus right now on my finances is to max my TSP (401K) at $18,500 by the end of the year. It’s looking like I should be able to easily do that by December at my current path. I have spent a bit out of my slush fund for another vacation for next month. I’m trying to focus on breaking some “drifting” I have been doing. I got this phrase from a current book I am reading that I think has some great takeaways so far. The book is “Design Your Future”, and is a short read that I feel has had a good impact on me so far. My drifting has been in the form of coming home at 5pm and getting on Facebook then next thing I know it’s 7pm and I’m asking myself “where did the time go”. So I have now identified an issue where I am not using my time intentionally enough. I will nip this in the butt as soon as I get back home. I have found this journey to be very rewarding and life-changing in many ways. It’s ironic to me how getting better at my finances has changed so many parts of my life. It has also made me learn new skills I would never have acquired before. I feel blessed to be on this journey and have the opportunity to share it.
